The Mating Dance is a contemporary reimagining of the White Swan pas de deux from Swan Lake, created for Dance Aspen. Set to Tchaikovsky’s iconic score, the work removes the traditional narrative and instead frames the duet as a mating ritual, with both performers embodying swans.

Rooted in classical vocabulary yet shaped by a contemporary sensibility, the choreography draws from the calm strength and distinct physicality of swans, with additional inspiration from nature documentaries such as Planet Earth and the work of David Attenborough. The result is an intimate, instinct-driven duet that explores transformation, connection, and the delicate balance between control and surrender.
